It will interest readers interested in exploration, planning, camping, travel on horseback, and Scottish History along with helpful information on Cushings in horses and Lymes disease in humans. It is a very different experience from the equine discipline of Endurance which I have been involved in for many years and enjoy but none the less enjoyable. This is a much slower pace giving you time to enjoy the scenery and quietness. There are not so many kilometres ridden per day but it covers many more days of riding. I found the partnership and welfare of the horses were exactly the same in both.

It was lovely to read about the characters of all four horses. Claire, the author, went into quite detailed descriptions on Yogi and Swift her own horses and then on her two borrowed Highland ponies Skye and Katie. She has truly got inside all four horses heads giving the reader an insight into the various characters. Claire, like so many of us, allow the horses to talk which again helps us to understand their characters.

Claire explains all the months of training, and fittening of her two horses to accomplish traveling alone for so many kilometres and days. She rode and sometimes walked leading Yogi and used Swift as a pack horse with all the equipment required for herself and her horses to successfully accomplish completing riding and leading from the East coast of Scotland to the West coast of Scotland a distance of 380kms in Seventeen days. She explains how much planning and checking prior to setting out it took. Her information on Scottish history is very interesting and must have taken hours of research too.

I found her information of the places she passed through and camped at excellent. Her description of the views and the terrain covered all added to the enjoyment of reading this book. It certainly left me wanting to plan a trip perhaps in the south of England. Anyone thinking of doing a long trek on their horse would do well to also have a read before setting out.

https://egb.myclubhouse.co.uk/Cms/Spaces/NEWS/Main+Blog/Book+Review+From+East+to+West+by+Saddle+is+Best+by+Claire+Alldritt
https://egb.myclubhouse.co.uk/Cms/Spaces/NEWS/Main+Blog/Book+Review+From+East+to+West+by+Saddle+is+Best+by+Claire+Alldritt
